CST Mumbai was the first railway station to be built in Mumbai. Mumbai railway is the oldest railway system in Asia. Work first started on CST Mumbai in the year 1878 and completed in the year 1888. It took 10 long years to built. CST was designed by Frederick william Stevens. It was intially sketch by draughtsman Axel Haig. CST was built for 16.14 lakh rupess.

Since CST Mumbai was built by Birtish, it was named after queen Victoria. CST Mumbai was intially called as Vitocria Terminus. It was built using Gothic Revival aslo known as Victorian Gothic or Neo-Gothic style architecture. Inside of the building had wodden carvings, brass and iron railings & tiles were used for floorings. The balustrades were used for the grand staircases & grills for ticket windows. All this was work of students at the Bombay School of Art, just across the road. CST Mumbai was built as the headquarters of the great Indian Peninsular Railway. Is still servers as the headquarters of the Central Railways.

First train ran between CST Mumbai & Thane, a distance of 34 kilometers on 16th April 1853. There is no stopping since then. It is estimated that around 3 million people travel everyday via CST Mumbai. It is one of the most busiest railway station in India. The station serves long distance trains as well as two of the suburban lines: the Harbour line and the Central Line.
